CREATIVE WRITING

at the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts in San Francisco

Welcome! CW develops the art and craft of creative writing through instruction, collaboration, and respect. This blog showcases STUDENT WRITING and how to APPLY to Creative Writing.

  •

The year is starting off nicely with some fun community activities: writing buddies brought each other special treats (and clothes) today, we played a few games, and the freshmen had a chance to be publicly initiated- i.e., Heather had them all sit in a row in front of everybody and had them chew on ridiculously sour candies. Most of them managed to poker-face it.

  • For all the new students coming in, Art&Film is a great, free program for teens that we’re required to attend twice per marking period. Hosted by Ronald Chase, it offers screenings of classic, foreign, and art films, along with either a short film or a cartoon before the movie and a group discussion after. Cookies and sparkling water are offered in the lobbies before we enter the theater.

Art&Film is hosted at either the Randall Museum (199 Museum Way) or the Dolby Screening Room (100 Potrero Ave). Arrival at 6:30, film at 7:00, unless otherwise specified.

Subscribe to the Art&Film email for updates on the next CineClub screening and opportunities of free tickets for the SF Symphony, Opera, and many other shows. To subscribe, visit the Art&Film website or simply fill out a card on your next CineClub visit.

  • This fall, the creative writing students are taking over the running of the creative writing website and adding a blog to the mix.  Rebecca S. and Midori C. will be providing  us with photos and news and other goodies related to the Creative Writing Department, the School of the Arts, and the greater literary community.  If you have news to share for the blog, please contact sotacdub@gmail.com

And if people do not come forward with news, these fearless interns will leave no stone unturned to provide regular fresh content.

  • Welcome to the new website for the Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts Creative Writing Department.  It’s a work-in-progress, so, like good writing, it’s all about the revisions.  For all information about the Creative Writing Department, please visit the original website at: sfsota-creativewriting.org.
